New WELMEC delegate for Cyprus
WELMEC welcomes Ms. Niki Pythara as the new delegate of Cyprus. Ms. Pythara represents the Weights and Measures Service / Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
Meeting of WELMEC Chairperson's Group in Helsinki
The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) hosted the meeting of the WELMEC Chairperson's Group in Helsinki on 3 and 4 April 2013.
During that meeting there was discussion on the topics prepared for the next Committee meeting which will be held on 13-14 May 2013 in Istanbul,Turkey. Furthermore the work of the Work Groups was overviewed.
Although Knut Lindløv said his farewell at the Committee meeting in 2012, he kindly agreed to stay in the Chairperson’s group till the next Committee meeting in 2013. The Chairperson's Group thanked Knut for his valuable input in this group.

New guide 6.12 published
Guide 6.12 issue 1, guide on Directive 75/107/EEC Measuring Container Bottles was approved through email voting by the WELMEC Committee and is now published.
29th Committee Meeting postponed to May, 13 and 14
The 29th Committee Meeting in Istanbul has been postponed for a couple of days. The new dates are: May 13 and 14, 2013.
Due to the event "International Istanbul Smart Grid Congress and Fair" that takes place on May 9-10, the Turkish DG for Metrology and Standardization could not organize the Committee Meeting to their satisfaction on the confirmed date and asked to postpone the meeting for a few days.
New template for guides available
As of today new templates are available to apply to the WELMEC guides. These templates are introduced to get more uniformity in the guides.
Ask your convener to supply the template to you or login to the Private Area in order to download the Word templates from the section "WELMEC Templates".
New guide 8.21 published
Guide 8.21 issue 1, Directive 2004/22/EC Common application was approved during the WELMEC Committee Meeting in Cracow and is now published.
New guide 11.3 published
Guide 11.3 issue 1 Guide for sealing of Utility meters was approved during the WELMEC Committee Meeting in Cracow and is now published with minor changes.
New guides published
Guide 2.8 issue 2 and guide 6.5 issue 2 were approved by the Committee during the WELMEC Committee Meeting in Cracow and are now published.

28th WELMEC Committee Meeting
The 28th Committee Meeting was held in Cracow, Poland on 26 & 27 April.
53 participants were present at the meeting representing 31 Members and Associate Members, 7 Working Groups and 5 Observer Organisations.

By adding an extra column to the overall view of guides it is now possible to see in one overview which language versions of a guide are available.
WELMEC Secretariat now in Dutch hands
As from friday, July 29 the WELMEC secretariat is in Dutch hands. The handing over of documents and financial statements took place at MIRS in Ljubljana during a full day meeting. Present were Ms. Nataša Mejak Vukovič, Mr. Grega Kovačič , Ms. Anneke van Spronssen and Mr. Lex Rooijers.
27th Committee Meeting
27th WELMEC Committee Meeting was held on 12 - 13 May 2011 in Valletta, Malta. At the meeting 55 participants were present, representing 32 Members and Associate members.
Anneke van Spronssen was elected as a new Chairperson.

Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia hosted the meeting of the WELMEC Chairperson's Group in Ljubljana on 3 and 4 March 2011.
The main topics of the meeting were:

WELMEC-EURAMET Focus Group
During the last meeting of EURAMET Focus Group on Facilitating National Metrology Infrastructure which was held on 1st and 2nd December 2010 in Budva, Montenegro the formal establishment of Joint EURAMET-WELMEC Focus Group on Facilitating National Metrology Infrastructure Development was confirmed.
Since EURAMET and WELMEC signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the last WELMEC Committee meeting in May 2010 in Bled, this Focus Group can be considered as a first concrete implication of the MoU.
The principal aim of WELMEC is to establish a harmonized and consistent approach to European legal metrology. WELMEC Associates need the necessary support to prepare, adapt,
upgrade and/or to improve national legislation to be harmonized with relevant EU legislation. The operation of Focus Group will help them to better and easier conduct the necessary actions and projects in their integration processes into existing WELMEC structure.
Operating Systems in Measuring Instruments and other software problems
Workshop “Operating Systems in Measuring Instruments and other software problems in Legal Metrology” will be held on 17th and 18th of november 2010 in PTB, Berlin.

WELMEC Seminar “Legal Metrology & EU directives, New Legislative Framework", 3 and 4 November 2010 in Zagreb, Croatia will be organised by Croatian State Office of Metrology in cooperation with EURAMET Focus Group on Facilitating National Metrology Infrastructure Development for South East European countries – Albania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYR of Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia
26th WELMEC Committee Meeting
26th WELMEC Committee Meeting was held on 6 - 7 May 2010 in Bled, Slovenia. At the meeting 64 participants were present, representing 31 Members and Associate members.
On this occasion the Memorandum of Understanding between WELMEC and the EURAMET has been signed by the EURAMET Chairperson Mr. Leslie Pendrill and WELMEC Chairperson Ms. Nataša Mejak Vukovič.
Meeting of the WELMEC Chairperson's Group in Ljubljana
Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia hosted the meeting of the WELMEC Chairperson's Group in Ljubljana on 8.,9. and 10. March 2010.
On 10. March the Convenors of the WELMEC WGs have joined the meeting.

- The overview of the work of WGs
EURAMET-WELMEC Seminar on Metrology and Conformity Assessment
EURAMET-WELMEC Seminar was held on 1st and 2nd March 2010 in Brussels. The seminar was organised in cooperation with European Commission – Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry, for countries which are part of ENP (European Neighbourhood Policy) and Russia. ENP countries are: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Ukraine.
The main objectives of the seminar were:
- Refreshment of main principles and clarification of basics
- Exchange of national experience
- Analysis of country situation and development of national strategies
- Stimulation of co-operation with other national bodies involved in conformity assessment and acceptance procedures (e.g., customs authorities, accreditation and notified bodies)
- Finding partners for support
Besides the speakers on behalf of EURAMET and the Commission, WELMEC lecturers (Mr. Freistetter, Mr. Klenovsky and Ms. Mejak Vukovič) participated with the presentations on NLF (New Legislative Framework), Services Directive and MID (Measuring Instruments Directive).

The seminar was recognised as useful tool for identifying the main difficulties that ENP countries face in order to find the possible solutions through further assistance where EU Member States can offer technology transfer in metrology (training, equipments, study visits , evaluation of NMIs, inter-laboratory comparison, drafting guidelines).
Meeting of the WELMEC Strategy Group
On 12 and 13 November 2009 the meeting of WELMEC strategy group was held at NMO in Teddington. The group has reviewed the draft strategy document which was discussed during last WELMEC Committee meeting in May 2009 and prepared the new version of the document, which has been circulated for comments to Committee Members in order to be adopted at the next WELMEC Committee meeting in May 2010.
The signing of the MoU Between WELMEC and EA
28. May 2009, Luxembourg
On May 28 the Memorandum of Understanding between WELMEC and the European Co-operation for Accreditation has been signed.
The final version of MoU was approved by the WELMEC Committee on the 25th WELMEC Committee Meeting where it has been agreed that it would be signed at the General Assembly of EA in Luxembourg on the 28th of May. The MoU was signed by the EA Chairperson Lorenzo Thione and WELMEC Chairperson Nataša Mejak Vukovič.
