GUIDE NAME:
Market Surveillance Guide (NAWI and MID) - 229Kb

GUIDE DATE: May 2007, Issue 2

TRANSLATED VERSIONS:
None

GUIDE SUMMARY:
Market surveillance is an essential tool in the overall concept of the New Approach. The manufacturer makes the measuring instrument. The Notified Body has a role in the application of the chosen conformity assessment procedures. The Member State checks that measuring instruments put onto the market for legal metrology purposes meet the essential and specific requirements of the Directive.

Therefore, this guide is intended in the main for the bodies in the Member States who carry out market surveillance, but it will also be of interest to manufacturers of measuring instruments, to their authorised representatives, to Notified Bodies, and to others with a wider interest in the operation of the Single Market, such as those concerned more generally with consumer protection and fair trade.
